Githunguri town in Kiambu county which is famous due to its association with freedom fighters Mau Mau has refused to grow even as other towns near it shine in real estate.
Many real estate investors seem to have ignored venturing into this town but residents are hoping that the new county government will come with change and fortune for the area.
Among the key facilities missing in the town are hotels with the so-called hotels in the area only able to accommodate just a few quests. The biggest hotel in the town, Delta, for instance holds only about 20 people.
The town is currently experiencing heavy traffic jam especially during rush hours and there is urgent need for the council to open up feeder roads to reduce the menace, residents say.
And while the Ministry of Nairobi Metropolitan recently erected flood lights in the town locals says there is need to light up the town using streets lights.
Gathura Njenga an investor in the town says that he cannot advice any investor to come and invest here because of lack of water, infrastructure and lack of drainage.
There is complain that the sewer lines that were used before the country attained independence have never been replaced with fears rising that this is a time bomb with the ever increasing population.
Residents also say that the town is served by one bore hole which was sunk 1939 but this water is hardly enough because of growing population. Sometimes, the water is rationed, residents say.
